ITAC '17 - CHALLENGE #2: ASIA

Ciao a tutti e bentornati! Oggi mi sono dedicata alla seconda sfida dell'International Tournament of Art & Craft - ITAC 2017...il nuovo tema è ASIA...Arte come Meditazione! 
Non potrei essere più d'accordo con questo...credo fermamente che l'arte possa essere utilizzata non solo come forma di meditazione, ma anche come terapia, come antistress...per me l'arte è tutto questo e molto di più...è nutrimento per l'anima...

Come per la SFIDA #1 (EUROPA) era obbligatorio inserire almeno una delle seguenti voci richieste:

- Motivi ispirati dai mandala  

· Forme Geometriche   

· Piastrelle, ceramiche, o loro disegni...    

· Fiori Asiatici, come fiori di ciliegio, crisantemi, orchidee, fiori di loto, frangipani, gigli, hibiscus, ecc 

· Calligrafia   

· Tessuto tinto a mano   

· Pigmenti in polvere   

 e così è nata questa 'canvas' mixed media...

Hello everyone and welcome back! Today I dedicated myself to Challenge #2 of The International Tournament of Art & Craft - ITAC 2017...the new theme is ASIA....Art as Meditation!
Couldn't agree more with this statement...I truly believe that Art can be a form of meditation, as well as a therapy, a stress relief...for me Art is all the above and more...is nourishment for the soul...

Just like the previous CHALLENGE #1 (EUROPE) it was mandatory to include at least one of the given prompt, as follows :

- Motifs inspired by mandalas

- Geometric shapes

- Tiles - ceramic, pantiles, glazed tiles, or their designs...

- Asiatic flowers, such as cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, orchids, lotus, Frangipani, lilies, hibiscus etc..

- Calligraphy or handwriting

- Fabric, faded or dyed

- Powdered pigments

so this is how this mixed media 'canvas' came to be...

Ho iniziato da questa carta patterned che mi ricordava dei motivi asiatici, l'ho incollata su di un rettangolo di chipboard piuttosto spesso, ed ho creato così la mia 'tela'...

Per ricreare il Mandala ho usato uno dei miei stencil preferiti, il 'Doily' della 13@rts e la Modeling Paste, ho asciugato e poi ho coperto tutto alternando Gesso Bianco e Trasparente, applicati con una spatola e con pennello, per avere una texture diversa...

Per colorare il tutto ho usato i Rainbow Color e Rainbow Color Duo della 13@rts...si tratta di pigmenti in polvere che reagiscono con l'acqua e creano effetti fantastici...i miei preferiti sono i Color Duo perchè al colore di base uniscono altre tinte per risultati sorprendenti! Essendo concentrati, basta davvero pochissimo prodotto.

Ho iniziato nel centro alternando Lemon Yellow e Yellow Amber e spruzzando acqua, ho asciugato e poi ho usato il Lilac nella parte superiore, spruzzato ed asciugato. Poi Turquoise in basso ed infine il Pistachio Green sulla parte rimanente, facendo scendere il colore fino al bordo (Vedete foto per riferimento)

Ho rinforzato un po' i colori con una seconda applicazione ed una volta asciutto ho spruzzato lo spray Starburst California Poppy Gold della Lindy's nel centro...nella foto si nota l'effetto shimmer...

I started this project from a piece of patterned paper that reminded me of asian wallpapers, I glued it to a piece of heavy chipboard of the same size, creating my 'canvas'...

To create the Mandala I have used one of my all time favorite stencils, 'Doily' by 13@rts and Modeling Paste, I dried it all then covered with Gesso, both White and Clear, using a spatula and a brush in order to have different textures...

To paint the canvas I have used 13@rts Rainbow Color and Rainbow Color Duo...these are dye-based watercolor powders and create amazing effects when spritzed with water...my fave are the Color Duo, because they have a base color and other contrasting pigments added to have surprising results! Being highly concentrated you really need a small amount of these powders.

Started in the center using both Lemon Yellow and Yellow Amber, spritzed with water and dried. Added Lilac on top of the Mandala, Turquoise at the bottom and last Pistachio Green, tilting the canvas to the side to have the color flow...(See pic for reference)

Added a bit more of colors here and there for a bolder look and once dry I added Lindy's Starburst California Poppy Gold just in the middle of the Mandala...you can see the shimmery effect in the photo below...

Con una forbice ho 'distressato' tutto intorno, poi  ho scurito il bordo in alto con il Distress Ink Seedless Preserve e quello in basso con Mermaid Lagoon...infine ho ripassato tutti i bordi con il Black Soot.
Con inchiostro archival nero ho timbrato dei motivi geometrici e con il pennino ed inchiostro di china nero ho scritto in alto l'ideogramma per ARMONIA ed in basso quello per VITA (chiedo scusa agli amici asiatici per la mia calligrafia pessima...)
Ho fatto cadere delle gocce di Splash Ink Nero della 13@rts, incollato del cordino e la foto di un fiore di loto, scattata lo scorso anno durante una gita lungo il Mincio, alle porte di Mantova...

With a scissor I distressed all around the edges, then enhanced the purple using Distress Ink Seedless Preserve and the turquoise with Mermaid Lagoon...finished with a touch of Black Soot.
With black archival ink I stamped few geometric motifs and with nib and Black ink I wrote the ideograms for HARMONY (above) and LIFE (I apologize with my asian friends for my dreadful handwriting...)
I spattered with Splash Black ink by 13@rts, glued some string and the picture of a lotus, taken last year, during a day-trip on  Mincio river, near Mantua...

Devo ammettere che sono piuttosto soddifatta del risultato, ideogrammi storti compresi...Lol!

I must admit that I am satisfied with the final results...crooked ideograms included...Lol!

ITAC '17 - CHALLENGE #1 EUROPE

Ciao e bentornati...questa settimana sono inarrestabile!!! Lol! E' da qualche tempo che voglio partecipare a questo 'Torneo Internazionale '  della creatività organizzato da AALL & Create...come al solito sono in ritardo (sono già alla Challenge #3 - Oceania)...comunque...un passo alla volta!
Per ora eccomi pronta con la Challenge #1 - Europa...The Face of  Printmaking! Era stato richiesto di includere una o più di queste voci (se non addirittura tentare di includerle tutte):

- un viso
- carte (giornale, stampate, carta di riso, ecc.)
- lettere, numeri
- il colore Blue per l'Unione Europea, la Union Jack, ecc
- nastro, twine, cordini o pizzo
- texture - prendere ispirazione dalla storia dalle civiltà antiche fino alla caduta del muro di Berlino
- qualcosa sia vintage che moderno

Credo di aver incorporato più o meno tutto...

Hello and welcome back...this week I'm on a roll!!! Lol! I decided to create something in order to participate to the 'International Tournament of Art and Craft' created by AALL & Create...as usual I am running late (they are at Challenge #3 - Oceania, already)...anyway...one step at a time!
For now I'm ready with my take on Challenge #1 - Europe The Face of Printmaking!...they asked to include one or all of the following:

- A face
- Papers (newspaper, printed paper, rice paper…etc.)
- Letters, numbers
- Blue for the colour of the European Union, Union Jack...
- Ribbon, twine, string or lace…
- Textures – take inspiration from history from ancient civilisations to the fall of the Berlin Wall
- Something both vintage and modern

I think I managed to include them all...sort of...

Per questa prima sfida ho deciso di dedicarmi al mio Art Journal, ho steso una buona mano di Gesso bianco, poi ho incollato del washi tape, del tissue wrap stampato con scritte e dei pezzi di pagine di libro (prompt PAPERS).

Ho aggiunto dei dettagli utilizzando degli stencils con pasta Crackle, pasta modellabile e con Gloss Gel (prompt TEXTURES)

Ho timbrato ed embossato delle lettere e dei numeri, oltre allo stencil TYPO usato con la pasta crackle (prompt LETTERS, NUMBERS)

Ho colorato il Gloss Gel con il colore in polvere Rainbow Color Duo Navy Blue ed aggiunto un po' di Silky Blue Shiny Powder e poi l'ho steso usando lo stencil MOSAIC, che mi sembrava appropriato dal momento che sia in Italia che in Grecia vantiamo una produzione di meravigliosi mosaici che ci hanno accompagnato dall'epoca Romana al Rinascimento (passando per i mosaici dell'antica Grecia...)

Poi ho iniziato a colorare, spargendo  prima il Rainbow Color Duo Navy Blue e attivandolo con l'acqua, poi dopo avere asciugato bene ho aggiunto il Pearl Navy Blue Mist  ed infine il Moon Shadow Mist Buccaneer Bay Blue di Lindy's Stamp Gang (prompt BLUE - per questo mi sono ispirata, oltre che al colore dell'Unione Europea, anche ai colori del nostro mare). Sul fondo della pagina ho aggiunto qualche tocco di Distress Oxide Ink Antique Linen e poi Vintage Photo, poi ho intensificato le 'crepe' in rilievo con Vivid Vintage Paint Espresso, aggiunto delle timbrate 'finto crackle' con inchiostro marrone e ripassato i bordi delle pagine con Distress Oxide Ink Vintage Photo e Black Soot.

Ho timbrato il viso di donna e le rose usando il timbro Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz Lady Rose: per il viso ho usato i Distress Ink Antique Linen e Vintage Photo solo su capelli e spalle, mentre le rose le ho dipinte direttamente con i Markers. (prompt FACE, VINTAGE)

Ho incollato un ramo fustellato, poi il viso ed aggiunto dei pizzo beige (prompt LACE), poi ho incollato le rose ed infine una monetina da 2 cents che ritrae la Mole Antonelliana (prompt MODERN)...sempre per restare in tema di Moderno e per seguire il tema 'Printmaking' ho aggiunto dei sentiments stampati con la mia DYMO!

Ho usato i seguenti materiali della 13@arts:

- Modeling Paste

- Rainbow Color Duo Navy Blue

- Shiny Powder Silky Blue

- Pearl Navy Blue Mist

- Vivid Vintage Paint Espresso

For this first Challenge I went for a spread in my Art Journal, gave it a good coat of White Gesso, then glued down  washi tape, printed tissue wrap and bits and pieces of a book page  (prompt PAPERS).

Added details using stencils with Crackle paste, Modeling Paste and  Gloss Gel (prompt TEXTURES)

I stamped and embossed letters and numbers, and used Tim Holtz TYPO Stencil   crackle paste (prompt LETTERS, NUMBERS)

Colored the Gloss Gel with watercolor  powder Rainbow Color Duo Navy Blue and added a bit of Silky Blue Shiny Mica Powder and spread using  Tim Holtz MOSAIC Stencil..found that appropriate as both in Italy and Greece we have a tradition of  mosaics production, from ancient Rome to Renaissance  (through the wonderful epic mosaics from ancient Greece...)

Then proceeded to color using first Rainbow Color Duo Navy Blue spritzed with water, after drying added Pearl Navy Blue Mist  and last Moon Shadow Mist Buccaneer Bay Blue by Lindy's Stamp Gang (prompt BLUE - for this color I got my inspiration not only from the European Union but mostly from the amazing colors of our Sea...). On the bottom of the page added few touches of Distress Oxide Inks Antique Linen and Vintage Photo, dab Vivid Vintage Paint Espresso onto the raised parts, added 'crackles' using a stamp and brown ink and darken the edges of the pages withDistress Oxide Inks Vintage Photo e Black Soot.

I stamped the face and the roses  using Stampers Anonymous/Tim Holtz Lady Rose stamp set: for the face I have used Distress Inks Antique Linen e Vintage Photo only on her hair and shoulders, while painted the roses with Markers. (prompt FACE, VINTAGE)

I have glued die cut leaves, the face and added some vintage lace (prompt LACE).  After that added the rosed and a 2 cents coin, with the ' Mole Antonelliana' (prompt MODERN)...in order to follow the 'Modern' prompt and the  'Printmaking' theme, added the sentiments printed with my DYMO!

- Pearl Navy Blue Mist

- Vivid Vintage Paint Espresso
